Newborn Care
When it comes to caring for a new baby, we know that you may have many questions. We are here to support you and ensure your baby has the best start in life.
At each visit your baby’s weight, length and head size will be measured. Your doctor will ask questions about basic milestones to make sure you child is on target with normal development. A complete physical exam will be performed checking all areas of the baby’s body. Your doctor will also discuss good eating habits, sleep routines and vaccinations. If you have any questions about anything your baby is doing, this is the time to ask.
Did you know...
it is normal for a new baby to lose some weight between birth and the first pediatrician’s visit? In fact, nearly all newborn babies lose weight during their first week of life. Pediatricians monitor this weight loss at initial appointments to ensure babies are feeding properly and adequately. Generally, a breastfed baby can lose as much as 7 to 10 percent of birth weight in the first week without causing alarm. Formula-fed babies, on the other hand, should lose no more than 5 percent of birth weight.
